Repaying a Wrong

Reading Response for the Week of May 2-May 6
We read the fable, Ananse’s Feast, in class last week. In the fable, Ananse tricks the turtle, Akye, and won’t let him have any of his food. Then Akye decides to repay Ananse for his trickery. He invites him to a meal and ends up not sharing his food at all.
Is Akye justified in repaying the trickery? Do you think Ananse deserved to be treated like that? Do you think in real life this would work? What experiences have you had with repaying a wrong with another wrong?

  1. I think Akye felt justified in repaying the trickery because he was mad with Ananse. However, in my own life, one time when I was in elementary school, I was in an argument with my friend and I said something kind of mean because she had said something mean to me first. I thought it would make me feel better, but really I just felt kind of bad and so did my friend.

  2. I think that Akye felt justice because Ananse had tricked him by eating all the food. He felt better by getting pay back on Ananse. Even though he felt better, it doesn't mean it was the right thing to do. I remember when my brother hit me with a towel, so I got mad and sprayed perfume all over his room. He did not like that, but it did make me feel better.

  3. I think Akye was justified for repaying Ananse for the trickery because Ananse was being greedy and not sharing, this relates to my life by when my little brother was kicking me really hard I got really mad so I pined him down and slaped him almost one-thousand times on his back and that is how my life relates to the story.( I couldn't think of any thing to do with horses.)

  4. I think Anase deserved to be treated like that couse he did the same thing to Akye.I think it would it would work in real life only with not very smart pepole.I acadently got mad at my dog and yelled at him. After that I was sad and so was my dog but he got me back with mud on his paws. I do think that justified in repaying the trickery.isabel

  5. Yes, Akye is justified in repaying the trickery. Yes, Ananse deserved to be treated like that. Yes, I think in real life this would work because when my younger sister hit me I hit her back and she was never got angry with me for that day.

I think Ananse needed to be tricked because Ananse tricked Akye. He deserved to be treated like that, but it's not a good solution. They both learned a lesson in the story because they were not friends anymore at the end. In real life it might work or might not. One time in real life my brother tricked me and I tricked him back. We started being major enemies, but it's not fun to be enemies. I would handle being tricked differently next time.

  7. Akye and Ananse shouldn't have done that to each other because two wrongs never make a right. For the third question I say no because then the world would be filled with people who are mean all the time. For the last question I have a good example. A couple years ago when we were eating dinner and I couldn't breathe trough my nose, my dad said, "Kelly, you need to eat with your mouth closed." I got really mad at my dad because I knew that he knew I couldn't breathe with my mouth closed. So out of the middle of nowhere I yelled out, "ME CHEWING WITH MY MOUTH OPEN IS QUIETER THAN YOU CHEWING WOTH YOUR MOUTH CLOSED!" It made me feel really bad about myself because I hurt someones feelings without trying to.

  8. I don't think Akye should'nt have taken revenge. I think if someone is mean to you then you walk away. Two wrongs don't make a right! I don't take revenge because that is just mean!!!

  9. I think Ananse sould had been tricked since he tricked Akye.I have an example. One time when my sister and I were goofy around I accidentally hit her in the stomach to hard when I didn't mean to.I knew I hurt someone and proably there feelings(From happy to sad or mad). That is my example and my blog.

  10. In my opinion, I felt what Akye did was right. This lets Ananse knows how akye felt in the trickery by getting Ananse back. In real life this may work because it's a learned lesson for both. One day, my brother and I was playing a video game. My brother made me mad during the game by saying I don't know how to play the game correctly. I then screamed, and stomp my feet. My parents were so upset that we both got our punishment. This is one lesson that I've learned.

  11. Once I was playing a game and a kid came over and I said he could not play so he was in a different game and said could I play and he said no.(I should not do that)(Akye shouldn't have done this becase it is not good)

  12. I think Ananse deserves revenge because now he knows how Akye felt to be hungry and abandoned. WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!?!?! So, I think Ananse did deserved it. But, I highly doubt it would work in real life. For example, when a mosquito bites me, I slap it and it dies. How do you like them apples?

  13. I think Akye was justified and Ananse deserved it. I do not think revenge works in the real world. Once my little brother destroyed one of my lego fortresses. I tried to keep in control but then I couldn't and I picked him up and put him outside. After that my parents beat me up with their words and I felt guilty for putting him outside.

  14. I think Ananse needed to be tricked beacuse Ananse triked Akye. For the third question I have to say I've never done that.

  15. I think that Akye was right because you don't trick a friend. A true friend will be your friend forever. You should learn how to forgive but not nessecarly forget. Try and be a true friend as much as posible.

  16. I think Ananse was justified in what he did. One time my brother said he would give me some money but instead he hit my hand. Then he asked me for money and I hit his hand and didn't give him any.I felt a little bit guilty but good because he deserved to be paid back the same way he tricked me.

  17. I think Ayke was justified and Ananse deserved it. I don't think this would work in the real world. One time my brother said some bad things about me. To get back at him I spied on him for a long time just to irritate and annoy him to get revenge. This only made matters worse because I got in trouble.

  18. Alexus,

Once my friends and I was watching a movie and we had popcorn. I was all out of popcorn so I took my friends popcorn when they were not looking. Next time we had popcorn my friends took popcorn from me and I knew that was wrong. I did not do that again, just like Ananse.

  19. I don't think it was right for either one of them to trick each other. Two wrongs do not make
a right. When someone tricks me, I usually just
let it go and move on. Tricking them back would not be the right thing to do.

  21. I think that Ananse desreved to be treated that way. Ananse didn't let Akye eat any of the food. Even tho I agree with Akye I've never taken revenge on anyone, but my little sister Casey does deserve it sometimes. She's mean to me everyday for no reason. I try to just let it go, because she does love me.

  22. I think Ananse needed to trick back.I think that because when your hungry and someones not leting you eat when your hungry,I would do it so they know what you felt like

  23. That Ananse tricked Akye so Ananse could eat all the food to himself and did not share it. And I don't share my food with my sister not even my dessert.

Idid not agree with the way Akye treated Ananse because you should treat others like you woulb want to be treated.

  25. I think Akye felt justified because he got revenge on Ananse who treated him wrong. I don't think revenge is a good thing because Jesus teaches us to forgive those who do wrong towards us. Nothing good comes from two wrongs being done. One time, my brother called 911 on me because I would not do what he asked. A few minutes later, I called 911 on him because he was teasing me. The police came and we both got in trouble for calling them for no real reason and our mom and dad ended up scolding us and taking away our priveleges.

  26. Annase was mean to trick Akye. But since Annase tricked Akye it was right to Akye to trick Annase back.revenge can make people feel better because they think they make the other person feel bad like they did.But its not a good thing for a person to do all the time. You could get filled with hateness. It is better to not do revenge and walk away in stead.

  27. I think Akye was justified in his revenge of Ananse because ananse was mean first. This does work in real life because once Olivia went in my room so I had to show her revenge and I picked her up and threw her on her bed.

  28. I think that Akye was justified by tricking Ananse.I don't think it was the right thing to do but I can see why he did it because he was mad.I am sure there was something my cousin and I have done to each other that could be an example but it was too long ago to remember.

  29. Akye did not have the right to trick Anansi back because Akye did not ask about eating Anansi's food before eating it. Anansi had the right to trick Akye because Akye stole Anansi's food.
