Reading Response Question for the Week of March 21-25
We have been discussing research in class and how different sources of information can be helpful when we want to find the answers to our questions. This week, think about a subject that interests you. What question did you have that could be answered with the encyclopedia? Use the online encyclopedia and find out the answer!
I am traveling to Walt Disney World this summer. One of my questions is… when was Walt Disney World first created? When I looked it up in the encyclopedia, I found out that the Disney park in Florida opened in 1971, but Disneyland in California opened in 1955. There’s also a Disney park in Paris, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. Cool!
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering what is a dodo bird? My mom said my sister looked like a dodo bird as she was walking out of school today. A dodo bird was a flightless bird from around the Indian Ocean. It has been extinct since the 17th century. When one refers to a dodo bird they mean "dead". So my mom meant my sister looked dead from being at school all day.

ReplyDeleteI want to know more about horses.One of my questions is...what do you measure horses in?When I was on the online encyclopedia,I found out that horse owners measure their horses in hands.A hand equals 4 inches (10 centimeters).
ReplyDeleteI was wondering "Who invented the toilet." I looked it up on an online encyclopedia and the awnser was Thomas Crapper. I was amazed because my mom guessed it was him but I just wanted to make sure.
ReplyDeleteI love video games, so I look up how to make video game. I find out that one person can make a video game from start to finish, but in today world, video game are more realistic and complex. Video game companies dedicate entire departments to create new games. I also find out it can be very expensive to make a game. Many companies might go into bankruptcy or merge with other corporations before a game is finished.

ReplyDeleteI am traveling to Florida. When was Florida Disney park opened cause we went by there. When was Disney Village open? Disney Park open in 1971 and Disney Festival Disney open in 1992 but renamed in 1996 to Disney Village.
The question I would ask would be how did dinosaurs become extinct? I found this answer in World Book online. Scientists have two theories one is the earth collided with an astoroid and the second was a volcano eruption in India.
ReplyDeleteSince my dad is Navy Seal, I wanted to know about the history of the Navy Seal. I learned that Seal stands for Sea Air and Land. I also learned that they started in December of 1962 during John F. Kennedy's presidency. They were used in Vietnam to secretly travel up rivers and bodies of water.

WW2 began on September 1, 1939 and ended in 1945. WW2 began because Germany attacked Poland. France and Britain helped defend Poland. WW2 involved 61 countries with 1.7 billion people. That is 3/4 of the world's population! I think that Germany was mean to Poland, like a bully.

Are there any famous spies? I found out there was a man named Cicero, also known as Elyesa Bazna, who was a famous german spy during world war II. He was the valet driver for the british ambassador of turkey. He photographed and gave secret documents to germany. I really think that was AWESOME, he was so brave!

I wanted to know more about Anole lizards.When I looked it up I found they can grow 12-45 cm or 5-18 inches in length.There are over 250 species of small lizards.Most of them change colors.

ReplyDeleteI want to learn more about Amelia Earhart. My question is how old was Amelia when she first flew a plane?And how old was she on her trip around the world when she disappeared? The encyclopedia taught me that Amelia first flew at age 24 when she took flying lessons. She took her last flight at age 39. That's pretty cool that a woman could do that!

ReplyDeleteI want to know how the soccer ball developed. I found out that they started out as animal skins. Then they started being made with leather and rubber. Soccer balls made today are made out of 12 panels over a latex inflatable core.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE horses and I want to learn a lot more about them(like always).I want to know what a horse looked like a bit after the dinosaurs.I went to world book and found out they had two tose on each foot and were smaller than a small dog!! (not a Chiuahua).Quit different from today huh!?

ReplyDeleteI learned that they used cannons, rifles also called muskets with lead bullets. They use bayonettes on the end of their muskets. This is like a knife attached to the rifle.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to know how friction is made. I learned that friction is created by the movement of your vehicle and how fast it goes.
ReplyDeleteI wonder when my dog, Sara, will have her puppies. I have learned that dogs are pregnant and it only takes them from 63 to 65 days to have puppies.
