Questions, Anyone?

Reading Response Question for the Week of January 10-14
We have been discussing “I wonder” questions while we read. Asking questions before, during, and after reading is a strategy that helps us keep our attention focused on the important details we are reading. We are able to think about what needs to be clarified and what might be important for us to know. When we have a question, we read more carefully in order to find the answers we need.
Using a book you are reading at home, jot down a question you had about the text. What made you ask that question?

  1. I was reading chapter 5 in the book Sideways Stories from Wayside School. When I read the part about the robbers coming into the classroom, I was wondering what was going to happen. The text said that the robbers were wearing masks and had guns, and I wondered if anyone was going to get hurt. Luckily Todd saved the day!

  3. I was reading chaper 9 in the book Sideways Stories from Wayside School. When I read the part about the Maurecia not liking ice cream anymore I wondered how could she not like ice cream. The text said that Maurecia got tired of ice cream. I wondered how anyone could get tired of ice cream. By the end of the month Mrs. Jewls had made 27 new flavors of ice cream and Maurecia liked them all but her the Maurecia-flavor.

  6. I've read a book called Elephants Can Paint Too. When I first picked up the book the first queston that was in my head was "how can they paint"? My brain was thinking why would the elephants' need to paint anyway. When I read the book I finally understanded why elephants paint it is because they are teachers for children and other elephants.

I'm reading a book called Storm Warriors with my Dad. I wonder if the little boy in the story is going to be a surfman at the Life Saving Station when he grows up. I ask this question because that is something that he really wants to become.

  8. The book I’m reading is called “Shedderman Secret Identity”. I have three questions with answers. My first question is why does he have to be a secret superhero? It is because he doesn’t want his life to change because he likes it the way it is. My second question is why does the book have to have bullies? At the beginning Shedderman is a nerd and gets bullied and then he becomes a superhero. My final questions is why did the author write this book? I’m pretty sure no one will know why except for the author. Those are my questions and answers.

  9. I read a book called Ghost Dog Secrets by Peg
Kehret. When I looked at the books cover I though this would be a good book for questions. When I was in the middle of the book a question popped into my head. "Why did mean man Myers break into Rusty's house?" I thought it was quite interesting that an old man would break into someone's house.

  10. I was reading chapter 2 from the book Sideways Stories from Wayside School. When I read about the childeren were monkeys, I was wondering how Mrs. Jewls thought the childeren were monkeys. After Todd, Calvin, Jason and Jenny tried to convinced Mrs. Jewls that they were children she made them do reading, writing, subtraction, addition, spelling. The children liked it better when she thought they were monkeys.

  15. As I was reading one of the chapters in Sideways Stories from Wayside school, Mrs. Jewls asked Joe to count from one to ten. When Joe started to count the numbers in order, he gets it wrong. Then when Mrs. Jewls asked him to count how many times she hit her head on the wall, he gets it right. I wondered how can Joe do that?
