It's Time to Reflect

Reading Response Question for January 24-January 28
Now that we are about halfway through third grade, it’s time to reflect on what we have learned as readers. We have talked about all kinds of strategies like predicting, questioning, making connections, inferencing (using the author’s clues), rereading to clarify, and thinking about genre. What are some things you have learned this year that have helped you become a better reader? What are some goals that you still have as a reader?

  1. This year, we have talked about the reasons authors write. Some authors write to inform, some write to describe, some write to entertain, and some write to persuade. Thinking about why the author is writing helps me to understand what I am reading. A goal I have is to read different kinds of books. I usually read a lot of realistic fiction, but I would like to try to read some other genres as well.

  2. There are two things that have made me a better reader. One is that I reread parts of the book that I don't understand right away. The second is looking for the author's clues.
My goal is to finish the Warrior's series.

  9. This year we have all learned that reading is all about understanding the book. But you always have to notice the charecters setting and problem. But my favorite thing about reading is feeling like you are inside the book while you are reading. My goal as a reader is to read more challanging books.

  15. What I have learned as a reader is that sometimes you don't always have to be really good at reading you just have to learn the words. If you learn words then thats when you can read (just like the book we are reading in class).I hope one day eyerybody that doesn't know words learns the words so they can understand how to read.
